Brook Andrew is an internationally acclaimed Wiradjuri artist whose multidisciplinary practice has profoundly shaped contemporary art discourse around colonialism, identity, and institutional power. Working across photography, installation, sculpture, and curatorial projects, Andrew interrogates how Indigenous peoples are represented in museums, archives, and popular culture, challenging colonial narratives through conceptually rigorous and visually striking work. His practice draws on appropriation strategies, combining historical imagery with contemporary critique to expose ongoing legacies of colonisation. Andrew's significant achievements include representing Australia at the 2022 Venice Biennale as artistic director of the Australian Pavilion with his exhibition "REVEL," and winning the prestigious Hiroshima Art Prize in 2017. He has exhibited at major institutions globally, including the Tate Modern, Museum of Contemporary Art Australia, and documenta 14 in Kassel, Germany. As both artist and curator, Andrew has championed decolonising museum practices and expanding how Indigenous perspectives are understood internationally. His influence extends beyond gallery walls through academic appointments and advocacy work, establishing him as a leading voice in global contemporary art while maintaining deep connections to Wiradjuri culture and knowledge.
