Regina Pilawuk Wilson is a senior Ngan’gikurrungurr artist from the Daly River region who lives and works at Peppimenarti in the Northern Territory. A master weaver turned painter, Wilson builds on skills passed down through matrilineal generations, winding pandanus and sand palm into traditional wupun (sun mats) and fish-netting forms. She transforms this inherited craft into paintings defined by rhythmic patterning, layered colour and subtle repetition, evoking both process and memory. In 2003 she won the General Painting category at the Telstra National Indigenous Art Awards for a work referencing a fish-net. Wilson’s paintings are held in major public collections worldwide, including the Art Gallery of New South Wales, National Gallery of Victoria, Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art and the British Museum. Her work has appeared in landmark international exhibitions, demonstrating her role as a cultural innovator who bridges weaving traditions and contemporary painting practice.
