2025 A Year In Review

2025 was a year of many firsts for D’Lan Contemporary—our first year as a gallery with three exhibition spaces, our first time participating in one of the world’s most prestigious Art Fairs, our first international exhibition, SIGNIFICANT, as well as first time partnerships and collaborations with other galleries, artists and art centres…

Among the year’s many highlights was the opening of Japarra amantiya Japilinga: Moon and Stars in February—simultaneously at Melbourne Art Fair and our Melbourne gallery—marking our first collaboration with celebrated Tiwi artist, Timothy Cook and Jilamara Arts & Crafts Association.

In March, we were proud to participate in TEFAF Maastricht 2025 for the first time, and to be the first Australian gallery to present important paintings and sculpture by Australia’s preeminent Indigenous artists.   June marked the tenth anniversary and first international edition of SIGNIFICANT—in Melbourne, Sydney, and New York—enabling us to reach and connect with far broader audiences than ever before.

And, in what was our first collaboration with international contemporary gallery, Pace, we presented the work of Emily Kam Kngwarray in London, which coincided with the artist’s major, critically acclaimed retrospective at Tate.   In September, we partnered with Munupi Arts and Ngaruwanajirri Art Centre to present Jane Margaret Tipuamantumirri’s first solo exhibition in Sydney at our Woollahra gallery, and at Sydney Contemporary.

This was followed by a solo presentation of recent paintings by respected artist, Aṉangu elder, ceremony song-man, and cultural custodian, Reggie Uluru in New York. This exhibition coincided with the 40th anniversary of the historic handback of Uluṟu and brought the work of Reggie Uluru to New York audiences for the first time.

Other highlights included our third consecutive participation at Frieze Masters, London, featuring paintings by pioneering artists, Makinti Napanangka and Naata Nungurrayi.

We could not have achieved any of these milestones you. We thank you for your continued support in 2025 and wish you a happy and peaceful holiday season. Our exhibitions remain open online but our Melbourne gallery is now closed until 12 January and our Sydney and New York galleries will reopen on 20 January.
