Description
The story of the Bush Turkey Dreaming is part of the same narrative as the Emu Dreaming that takes place along the escapment of the Durack range, a high peak that runs to the west of Bedford Downs. Paddy Bedford would frame each dreaming site separately, such as in this early painting.
Some of the forms that take shape in this early work are distilled in later paintings such as the elliptical shapes and the arched lines that continue beyond the canvas. Paddy Bedford shows an intuitive understanding of the composition dynamics within the pictorial frame, originating in part from the painted dancing boards historically linked to worranggoo – the thread cross structures carried in non-sacred forms of Gija ceremonial exchange.
